Below is the list of the ideas in a more complete form using an image of the target building - the Grandmaster's Palace - that will be used. My main aims were to use the architecture, since it is one of the most important buildings in the Maltese history and also create a certain atmosphere of nostalgia, pride and love. I wanted to convey a certain feeling factor by exposing scenes which we take for granted or let them go unnoticed: the image of a pregnant Mary, holding baby Jesus for the first time, etc., giving more emotion to the usual Nativity which has become stereotyped across the Catholic world. An interactive PDF including the final group storyboard can be found at the bottom!
Work Distribution, success criteria and limitations
Work has to be distributed into 6 sections:
Concept Artists & Researchers: Conduct research to come up with original concepts and apply them to their sketches to create final ideas. Tools such as tutorials and how-to's are also in their hands. Must be helped by digital artists to broaden ideas.
Digital Artists: Collect final ideas from concept artists and create digital renders. Must be helped by concept artists.
Animation Artists: Collect from digital artists the final work and animate it in 2D. Must help digital artists.
3D Artists: Create 3D objects from final ideas by concept artists. 3D animation is also in their hands. Helped by projection team.
Progress Checkers: Keep multiple back-up of all work and check all work is done correctly according to needs and on time. Connecting pieces together, updating website, keeping attendance and solve any problems with administration, arrangements, finding materials etc is their job.
Projection Team: I think everyone should take part in expressing their opinions and aiding this team in creating the final effects. It is the final step of this project and everyone should be on the same line.
Limitations
1. Poles in front of the palace
2. Palace is not straight: stands on a slightly sloped road
3. Only one month to finish it - simplicity, least renders as possible
4. Many windows
5. Possibility of too much light in the square - the need of multiple projectors for crispier image
Success Criteria
Audience: Since Malta is very famous for tourists, one would not be surprised to find that half the crowd consists of people from different nationalities. This asks for spice in the projection, so we cannot just stick to religion or particular areas; different countries mean different traditions, beliefs and way of thinking. Showing different elements will make the audience feel at ease and interact/connect with it
Originality: Research accumulates information which offers flexibility in creating things with basis to them, not just imagination. This allows space for originality while still keeping to the nature of tradition or theme.
Deadlines: We are very short on time. This means that what has to be done must be done at once and the best that can be. Keeping to well-organized deadlines will help reduce panic at the end and leave time for finishing touches.
Limitations: Recognizing our limitations will spare us time and work since no effort will be spent for nothing. This is essential so that we know exactly what the end product will look like and how it will be presented with no doubts
Group Work: Working hand-in-hand is the key to everything. Maybe the more the merrier, but if proper communication is not carried out there will be misunderstandings, wasting of time and complications that just should not happen plus that we simply cannot afford them. We are a group of 46 people - a great feat - working towards the same goal that will either cost our image or embellish it; our actions will determine which.
